For a few days each year, our namesake flies in.

“The bird on our gate is the Indian Paradise Flycatcher, the state bird of Madhya Pradesh. It is shy and rare, and it lands on our farm for only two or three days each year. A sanctuary is a place it is safe to land.”

The Raahat Sanctuary is a working family farm in Rahatgarh, run on our own solar power. We grow the fruit, press the oil and cook the meals ourselves. We wait for the flycatcher every year, and try to keep the farm the kind of place it would choose. The flycatcher is only the rarest of our visitors: kingfishers, bee-eaters, sunbirds, owls and dozens more pass through the year, which is why so many guests come simply to watch and photograph them. Guests eat what the farm grows, and take home what they loved.
